St. John’s street

George Żammit is a small family owned shop in St. John street Valletta, supplying grocery items in a very traditional way of storing things on the shelf, pricing items and layout of the shop. The person at the door is not the owner but an Avatar representing the typical Maltese shop owner having a cigarette, feeding some crumbs to the pigeons and observing people passing buy. In this case it would be a typical stare observing a person snapping a photo unannounced. A typical day in Valletta!

Jean de Valette

This monument is a tribute to one of the prominent grandmasters during the period where Malta was under the knights, the person that had a vision, the person that decided to build the city and thus its name…Valletta. In this painting we see 2 typical generic persons, two  avatars of tourists visiting the place in the scorching sun of a Maltese afternoon. We see one of the persons interested about the story and making reference to her document, whilst the other person is happily munching her food. We can also see a couple of men in police uniform on duty guarding the Auberge de Castlille where the office of the prime minister is sited and another viewer, roaming around… A typical day in Valletta!

This is a classic scenario where the avatars represent a cheeky, nonchalant waiter Edward serving at his uncle’s hotel and a very demanding, exigent client. How many a time have we encountered either of the sides?! The waiter is almost asking the viewer approval for serving the drink, a dry Martini…Lets hope the Olive will be still in the drink by the time he serves it.
